Pursuing Meaningful Success

Write a farewell address.

Here’s a fun little thought exercise to help you gain perspective and maybe a little motivation.

.

You’ve got 4 (or so) years in an environment filled with opportunity for fun, learning, and growth that you will never again repeat. But when it’s all said and done, that’s it.  Curtains close and the show’s over. Any recent grad will tell you: you may be able to go to the same bars and tailgate when you’re out of school, but you’ll never experience college again.

.

Imagine you were to give a farewell address upon graduating just like a president gives a farewell address after his term is over. You would stand in front of your friends, family, classmates, and professors and summarize and reflect on your experience in college.

.

Of course, you probably will never give an actual address like this. But whether you actually deliver one or not, you create the substance of one through your years in school.

.

So if you were to give one, what would you want to say in yours?

.

Consider how you would want to say you had grown, overcome challenges, learned to lead, build great friendships, made priceless memories, and accomplished certain goals.

.

Who would you thank? What would you tell future generations based on your experiences?

.

When you look back on college, your memories are essentially the content of what a farewell address would be for you.

.

That’s what you’ll walk away from college with: memories and reflections that make up a farewell address. Think about the farewell address you would like to give. Then start making it come true.  Nothing’s stopping you :)
